Eat More Chia!

Chia seeds are a big food staple in our house. We add them to just about everything,  this includes smoothies, oatmeal, muffins, crackers and even popsicles. They are FULL of healthy fats and are a powerhouse of nutrition. This is why at Food Snob we knew they were a must have in our mixes. Below are just three of reasons why chia seeds are so great!





1.They are great for the athlete, or just the active.

Whether you are training for a marathon, or simply chasing around kids all day, chia seeds will keep your energy up. According the article by Dr. Axe, 9 Benefits + Side Effects of Chia Seeds,  “Aztec warriors ate chia seeds to give them high energy and endurance. They said just 1 spoonful of chia could sustain them for 24 hours. Chia means “strength” in the Mayan language, and they were known as “runners food” because runners and warriors would use them as fuel while running long distances or during battle.(Source)” I love adding chia seeds to my water when I go for a run for extra energy and hydration boost!


2. They contain high levels of antioxidants.

Antioxidants are great at reducing inflammation in the body. When you have less inflammation, you have less of a chance of disease forming in your body. Antioxidants also give you great skin, as they prevent premature aging. Best of all, they boosts your immune system, and I know we could all use a little of that around cold and flu season!


3. They can replace eggs!

I would have to say that since discovering my egg allergy, this is one is very important to me. With Chia seed being an egg replacer, I can still have baked goods! The recipe for this is simple, just add 1 TBSP of chia seed to 3 TBSP water and allow it to gel. You can also use them as an egg replacer in our mixes!
